Beloved father, brother, grandson, nephew, and son
My father, Chris Juliano, was a loyal, compassionate, honor-bound, and all-around hilarious human being. He had me when he was 18 years old, which is a scenario that I shudder to think of myself in. To me, though, he wasn’t a teen dad—he was my hero.
As a kid, I was all too excited to go to my dad’s on the weekends where I was allowed to watch South Park, laugh at adult jokes, play video games, and hang out around my dad’s friends.
Throughout my teenage and young adult years, our relationship became more tumultuous. We had disagreements here and there, but reflecting back I see that those disagreements didn’t stop him from instilling in me the value of family, or teaching me how to maintain/fix my car, or telling me that “the IRS is the last person you want to come looking for you”… he made it a point to share with me what he had learned from his own errors, and showed me what it looked like to craft your own redemption arc.
He came to the first breaking battle I ever won with my Uncle Elijah and told me that if he tried to do what I did, he’d “be out of work for a week”, then he told me that he was proud of me. I’ve never forgotten that moment.
If I could say anything to you now, I’d remind you—because I definitely said it when you were still here—that I’m proud of you too. I love you dad, and I’ll make sure your grandchildren know about their grandfather. I’ll see you, Grandpa Byron, and CJ again.
